Helen Bauer Obituary

HANOVER Helen M. Bauer, 99, entered into God's eternal care on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Hanover Hospital. Born Monday, April 26, 1915, in Shenandoah, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Shustack Stancofsky. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William A. Bauer; a son, William Bauer; and sisters, Sara, Alice, and Stella. Mrs. Bauer worked as a dental hygienist for 11 years, and as a sales lady in the Hanover General Hospital for 24 years. After retiring from that position, she continued to volunteer at the hospital until the age of 93. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was a former member of the Hanover Lioness Club, the YWCA Wives, and the Elks Lodge BPOE #763 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved playing bridge, was an avid reader, and enjoyed travel with family and friends. Helen was adventurous, had a wonderful sense of humor, was certainly opinionated but always knew that family and friends were the real treasures in life and loved them unconditionally. Survivors include a son, Lawrence A. Bauer and his wife, Marie; and a daughter, Maryellen Eisenberg and her husband, Harvey. She loved and spoiled her seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her more than words can say. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated by The Rev. Stephen Kelley. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Shenandoah. Arrangements are under the care of Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., Hanover. To the family of Helen Bauer,
We want to express our deepest sympathy to all of you on the daath of your beloved mother and grandmother.
She was a very special lady and we used to pick her up for Saturday night Mass when her regular people were away. Also we would take her and her granddaughter to midnight Mass and she loved serving on the alter.
She always gave ue a little gift for taking her to church. She was such a kind and thoughtful person.
We are sending a Mass to the Jesuits to be said for the repose
of her soul. We moved to Cape May, NJ last year so we were unable to attend the funeral. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We pray God will hold you close to Him at this very sad time.
We send our love and prayers, Sincerely, Rose and Bob Britcher

Wow Helen what a long life! My condolences to my distant cousins. Helen and I exchanged Christmas cards every year. My Aunt (Sister Lenore) and my dad were first cousins of Bill's. When my parents visited me it sometimes included a trip to the Bauer house. And they were very kind to my aunt while she was stationed in Hanover.

I met Helen approximately 15 years ago while visiting the sick in the hospital. Upon her recovery she invited me to her house for tea. I visited often and enjoyed her wisdom and company immensely. She was such an active person and enjoyable to visit. Thank you for sharing your mom. Peace to your family in this time of loss, Michelle Mills

To the Bauer family.
My sincere sympathy to your family on the loss of Helen.
I used to go into the drug store on Baltimore Street back in the early 60s .
I really liked Bill & Helen, they were a good friend to a young guy who lived in the area.
My Mother Loretta Wentz and Helen were good friends.
