Waight, Donald - Hornell  
ALAMEDA, Calif. - Donald Waight, 65, of Alameda, Calif., passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. Don was born in Hornell, on Oct. 21, 1949, the son of Allen M. Waight and Mabel I. (Markle) French. A graduate of Alfred State College, Don was a registered nurse and worked in the Emergency Department of Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, Calif., for 35 years until he retired in 2011. Don loved music and theatre. Before moving to California, he performed in rock and roll bands in the Hornell area and is best remembered as the lead singer of the band "Freeway." Don's love of theatre began at Alfred State College where he performed in many productions on campus. After moving to California, he became an active member of the Masquer's Theatre in Richmond, Calif., where he played many roles. Don is survived by his twin sister, Norva "Ike" (Gerald) Beyea of Canisteo; and his brother Ray A. Waight of Canisteo; cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother, Larry A. Waight. There will be a private graveside service in Jasper Town Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
