WELLSVILLE - Barbara Jean DeJonge, 77, formerly of the Beaver Hill Road, died Friday (Dec. 27, 2013) in Jones Memorial Hospital in Welllsville following a long illness.
She was born in Clifton, N.J., on April 1, 1936, the only daughter of Peter and Ruth Hazekamp Heuvel.
On June 20, 1953, in Red Bank, N.J., she married Robert M. DeJonge, who predeceased her on May 18, 2000.
Formerly a resident of New Jersey, she had resided in Wellsville since 1972. She and her late husband were active in their various business holdings: dairy farming, RDJ Trucking, the Wagon Wheel Restaurant and also Ro-Bar Rentals.
She was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee, N.Y. She was a gracious hostess known for her pleasant personality, decorating flair, and love for family and friends. She also was an avid gardener, held a deep appreciation for music, and enjoyed time spent at the ocean and in her seasonal Florida residence.
Surviving are sons, Robert G. (Sharon) DeJonge of Wellsville and William (Deborah) DeJonge of Wellsville; her daughter, Laura (Vincent) Bock of Wellsville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two foster children; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Peter H. Heuvel; and a grandson, Robert G. DeJonge, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, in the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville. Pastor Daniel Cacciola of the Wellsville Anchor Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at the family's convenience.
