David S. "Papa Dave" Robinson Jr. Obituary
LONGS, S.C. - David S. "Papa Dave" Robinson, Jr., formerly of Hornell, N.Y., left this earth to unite with his Heavenly Father on Jan. 11, 2014, at his home in Longs, S.C.

Born in Concord, Mass., on Sept. 5, 1929, he was the son of the late David and Hazel Robinson.

Survivors include his beloved spouse, the former Karen I. Tunningley of Nunda, N.Y.; a son David S. (Heidi) Robinson of Canisteo, N.Y.; a daughter Carrie Elizabeth (Peter) Kochek of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a granddaughter, Erin Marie Robinson; grandsons Wilson and Miles Kochek; and a sister, Joan C. Robinson of Morrisville, Vt.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Ann Hill Browning. He is a member of Waterbrook Community Church, Longs, S.C.

David has had a remarkable business life in the field of finance and administration. Following service in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he was employed by Dun & Bradstreet Inc., was an officer with the Indian Head National Bank in New Hampshire, vice president and controller for Bankers Credit Service and in 1969 was appointed as regional administrative officer for the New York State Department of Transportation, in Hornell. He retired from that position in 1986 and from 1990 to 2000, he served as the clerk/treasurer for the village of Arkport, N.Y.

While living in Hornell, he served as a board member of the Southern Tier Library System, board member and president of the Hornell Public Library, served as president on the Hornell Red Cross Board, and was a former member of the Hornell Rotary Club, serving as president in 1979-80. He was also past president of the Hornell Area Humane Society.

He was a private pilot and as such, served as a member of the New York Wing Civil Air Patrol, USAF, where he held several command positions, including squadron and group commander. He had been rated pilot and observer, conducted several search and rescue missions as a USAF qualified SAR coordinator. He received the Paul Garber Award for meritorious service and held the rank of lieutenant colonel at the time of his retirement in 1991.

While living in the Myrtle Beach, S.C. area since 2000, he became active in his love and service for the Lord. His work became that of bible distribution for The Gideons International, where he served as treasurer of the North Strand Camp until his illness in August 2013. Within the church family, he served with joy on the music and greeter ministries.

The celebration memorial of Dave's Homegoing and life with Christ, will be held at Waterbrook Community Church, EPC, 86 Cloverleaf Drive, Suite 206, Longs, SC 29568. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with service to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014.
