Stanley C. Mastin Obituary
DANSVILLE - Stanley C. Mastin, 78, passed away peacefully Thursday (May 8, 2014) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

Stan was born May 15, 1935, in Groveland, a son of Percy and Sarah (Pfuntner) Mastin. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and served during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1957. During his military tour, he spent his basic training in Cape May, N.J.; he then was stationed aboard the USCG Cutter YAKUTAT, patrolling the East Coast and North Atlantic (search, rescue and weather patrols).

His home port was in Portland, Maine and New Bedford, Mass., with a temporary assignment in Bermuda. In July 1955, he was aboard the Cadet Cruise to Puerto Rico and Panama Canal Zone, where he participated in the Andrea Doria and Stockholm Collision recovery. He was discharged from active duty in June 1957.

He married Deanna M. Farrell on July 26, 1958, in St. Patrick's Church in Dansville; she survives. He started his career at Foster Wheeler Corp. in 1953, prior to his military service, after which he worked from 1957 'til 1976, as a welder. During that time, he received his teaching certificate as an instructor, then took a position as a welding instructor at Wildwood Career Center (BOCES) in Hornell from 1976 until his retirement 1997.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by mother and father-in-law, Fletcher and Helen (Murphy) Farrell; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Lenora Mastin; sister-in-law, Winifred Mastin; brothers-in-law, Richard Farrell and James Scott.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, attending weekly Mass at Holy Angels in Nunda. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Daniel Goho American Legion Post # 87 and AARP.

Stan enjoyed bowling, fishing, his welding, furniture restoration and repair to a variety of items. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was survived by his wife of 55 years, Deanna M. Mastin; children, Randal (Laurie) Mastin of Pavilion, Timothy (Candy) Mastin of Apex, N.C., Kevin (Joni) Mastin of North Bend, Wash., Karen Martin of King, North Carolina and Pattie Mastin of Tobaccoville, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Gregory Mastin, Andrew Mastin, Michael Mastin, Jeremy (Ashley) Martin, Christopher (Kelsey) Martin, Matthew (Kelly) Mastin, Jenny Mastin, Ashley Mastin and Travis Mastin; five great-grandchildren, Addison Martin, Harper Martin, Noah Martin, Charlie Martin and Riley Grace Mastin; one brother, Arthur Mastin of Groveland; two sisters, Joanne Scott and Doris (Richard) Scott, all of Dansville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends were able to call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Chamberlin – Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Church, Dansville. Burial with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
