Samuel J. "Jim" Dineen Obituary
CANISTEO - Samuel J. "Jim" Dineen, 82, of Dineen Road, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (May 6, 2014) at his home on Dineen Road in the town of Canisteo.

Jim was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Canisteo, to Samuel A. and Margaret (Lavery) Dineen.

He had attended Canisteo Central School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne, serving during the Korean War from 1951-54. For many years, he was an operative mason for the Brick Layers Union #14 of Ithaca. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who passed on his love of nature and his knowledge of the outdoors to multiple generations of family and friends.

His masonry work continues to provide foundation and structure to many schools, businesses and homes
throughout the area. His stone and brick finish work is viewed as artwork. An example is the Kanestio
Historical Society Building on Main Street in Canisteo, constructed in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Kull) Dineen of Hornell; a stepdaughter, Christine Rawleigh of Bath; a stepson, Randy (Susan) Harkenrider of North Hornell; two sisters, Elizabeth (Burr) Ripley of Freeville, and Margaret Penna of Bath; two brothers, John R. (Joyce) Dineen of Howard and Thomas Dineen of Dineen Road in Canisteo; and several nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Bernard Dineen; two sisters, infant Mary Dineen and Rose Mary Dineen; a sister-in-law, Norma Dineen; and a nephew, Dillen McCormick.

There will be no public calling hours or service. Private funeral and burial services will be at the convenience of the family at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery in the town of Hartsville.
