Jay C. Thomas Obituary
MOBILE, Ala./CANISTEO - Jay C. Thomas, 56, formerly of Canisteo passed away Monday (June 2, 2014) in Mobile, Ala., following a long illness.

Jay was born Sept. 20, 1957 in North Hornell, to Jack and Christine (Dennis) Thomas.

He had attended Canisteo Central School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975 and was honorably discharged after serving four years. He had resided many years in Virginia where he worked as a welder in ship building and later found employment in building construction.

Jay was a kind and gentle person who would do anything for his family and friends. During his lifetime he loved to restore cars and loved animals.

Jay is survived by his mother, Christine Thomas of Canisteo; father, Jack (Coral) Thomas of Madison, Miss.; a sister, Susan (John) Lynch of Mobile, Ala.; and a brother, Tracy (Bridgit) Thomas of Canisteo. He is also survived by a nephew, Michael Lynch; two nieces, Katie and Emily Lynch; an aunt, Arlene Dennis of Hornell and an uncle, David (Beverly) Dennis of Mound City, Kan.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo will be announced at a later date and time with Rev. Beverly Welch officiating.

Memorial contributions in Jay Thomas' name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd., Hornell, N.Y., 14843.
