James H. Oas Obituary
WAYLAND - James H. Oas, 76, passed away Sunday afternoon (Jan. 26, 2014) at the Vincent House Comfort Care Facility in Wayland.

Jim was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Wayland, the son of Sydney and Kathryn (Platt) Oas. He was born at his current home in Wayland and has lived in that home his entire life.

Jim was a 1955 graduate of Wayland Central School and subsequent to his graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960. On Sept. 23, 1961, Jim and Gayle Trowbridge were married in Newark and together have celebrated more than 52 years of marriage.

His employment career was mostly spent as a chemical mixer at Kodak in Rochester, retiring after 28 years there. He also owned his own saw-sharpening business, Jim's Sharpening Service, for a few years.

Jim loved to golf and enjoyed woodworking. Fishing (both summer and ice) and hunting were both hobbies of his throughout the years.

He was a fan of country music and Jim especially loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. Jim was also a life member of the Wayland Fire Department.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Sydney and Kathryn Oas.

He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Gayle Oas of Wayland; his two sons, Russell (Karen) Oas of Wayland and Phillip Oas (Carrie Hanggi) of Wayland; his daughter-in-law, Julie Oas of Wayland; his grandchildren, Kaleigh (Eric) Briceland of California, Meagan Oas of Rochester, Cody Oas of Wayland, Michael Folts (Breanna Genung) of Wayland and Molly Oas of Wayland; stepgrandchildren, Caleb, Grace and Cole Hanggi; a great-grandson, Ryder; siblings, Tom (Linda) Oas of Wayland, Phyllis Neetz of Dansville and Don (Alma) Oas of Naples; along with several nieces and nephews.

Jim's family and friends may call Thursday from 4–7 p.m. at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland. Jim's funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Committal prayers and internment will take place at the Village Cemetery at a later date.
