Geeding, W. Laurence "Larry" W. Laurence "Larry" Geeding, 89 years old from Menasha, Wisconsin, passed away on the morning of May 11, 2012, in Weston, Wisconsin after a short illness. Larry was born December 24, 1922 in Harvey, Illinois. He is the son of Rev. Walter W. Geeding and Inez Esther (Smith) Geeding. A graduate of Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois; he also graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Sciences in Chicago, IL where he won the I.M. Feinberg Pathology Award. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where he obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences and a Masters degree in Psychology. On April 17, 1943 he enlisted in the Army, later to join the Army Aircorp and obtain the rank of Second Lieutenant. Based in Lecce, Italy during WWII he flew 26 bombing missions as a lead navigator on B-24 "Liberators" with the 415th Bomb Squadron, 98th Bomb Group, 47th Bomb Wing of the 15th U.S. Army Aircorp. He was awarded the Air Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, a silver star, a bronze star and a bronze oak leaf cluster. He enjoyed a variety of occupations, including farming and ambulance driver. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer working for the Thomas E. Corcoran Funeral Home in Chicago, IL. He went into education serving as a high school biology teacher, then a guidance counselor in Illinois. He moved to Menasha WI in 1966 and served as a school psychologist with C.E.S.A., Lena School District and Hazel Green School District when he retired in 1991. He had a passion for nature, flowers, kids, numbers, puzzles and the EAA AirVenture. He spent countless hours perfecting his mental calendar and the board game Teeko. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dona M. (Harshman) Geeding ; son Cameron Duane (Rain) Geeding of Appleton WI, daughter Cambria Lynn Mares of Weston, WI; son Curtis Thayer Geeding of Plymouth, MN; two grandchildren, Trenton Alexander Laurence Mares and Keaton Elliot Mares of Weston, WI. He was preceded in death by his mother Inez (Smith) Geeding on December 13, 1941; father Walter W. Geeding on November 24, 1965; and sister Dorothy W. Horn on October 21, 2000.
