Ann Page Welty was born in Fresno, California to Matthew Page and Frances Reeder Page on March 20, 1927. She passed away on March 25, 2014 in Denison, Texas at the age of 87. Ann graduated from High School in San Leandro, California in 1945 and attended Merritt Business College in Oakland, California. Shortly thereafter, she travelled alone by train from California to Austin, Texas to live with her older brother Weldon Page and his family, and to take a job with the Texas Teacher Retirement System. She later became a secretary in the office of the Dean of Engineering at the University of Texas
. It was there she met the man of her dreams, Richard O. Welty, who taught mechanical engineering at the University. Ann and Richard married on March 24, 1951 in Austin. They moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1955 when Richard took a job as an engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company. They had three children, Rick, David and Laney and lived in Bartlesville for 57 years until Richard passed away in July of 2013. Ann then went to live in Durant, Oklahoma with her daughter Laney. While in Bartlesville she was active in many volunteer activities such as the Cheery Cherry Ladies at Jane Phillips Hospital, she served as president of the League of Women Voters, and was active as a den mother in Cub Scouts. Ann loved to play bridge and mahjong with her friends and was an animal lover, often stopping to help injured animals and righting turtles when she found them on their backs. She particularly loved cats.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard, parents Matthew Page and Frances Reeder Page, step-father Sydney Cowan, brothers Matthew and Weldon, half-brother Sydney Cowan, sisters Frances, Evelyn, Betty and Rosalie, and an infant brother Cary. She is survived by her children Richard Page Welty and wife Yumiko of Boulder, Colorado, David Otto Welty and wife Kimberly of Oakland, California, daughter Ann Elaine (Laney) Ketchum of Durant, Oklahoma, granddaughter Kara Leanne Ketchum of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Kara's father Dallas Ketchum of Durant. The family will hold a private graveside service in Hunter, Oklahoma.
