Carl Edwin Schonborg(1938-2012)

Carl Edwin Schonborg, 74, passed away Nov. 2, 2012, at his home in Bartlesville. Carl was born July 14, 1938, in Worcester, Mass., to Carl Schonborg and Emily Taylor. After graduating from Ilion High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960.
Carl was united in marriage with Marjorie (Marge) Clark July 29, 1978, in Constancia, NY. They lived in New York before moving to Colorado in 1993, then Arizona in 1997 where Carl worked for Pinal County until he retired as telecommunications manager in 2005. They moved to Bartlesville and in just seven years, became active citizens of the local community.
Carl attended First Presbyterian Church of Bartlesville and had a heart for volunteer service. He was an outstanding member of the Bartlesville Lions Club, was installed as district governor in Sydney, Australia, and served as past president and zone chair. Under Carl's leadership, the 2011 District Convention had the theme "Serve and Share" and in a departure from traditional convention format, the Lions spent their morning in a service project. They packed 400 bags for the poorest of the poor children in local schools served by Agape Mission's Food 4 Kids Program. "I am asking all District 3-O Lions Clubs to … support these worthy projects. We can make a difference."
As a mason in New York, Carl served as Grand Sword Bearer for the state and patron of Hiawatha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. He was past president of Bartlesville Wosono Shrine Club and active with Tulsa Akdar Shrine. Carl was an Eagle Scout and stayed active in scouting for life and was unit commissioner for the Cherokee Area Council. He also served as first president and packer for Bartlesville Meals on Wheels, did traffic control and other functions for the emergency operations center, and delivered Lions donations to Joplin's tornado victims.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of the home Marge; four children: Christine Engel and Ken of Maryland, David Schonborg and Yvonne of Tuckahoe, NY, Stephanie Naughton and Jay of Camillus, NY, Thomas Schonborg and Vicki of Los Lunas, NM; six grandchildren; and his sister Beverly Rosbrook of Victor, NY.
