Cora Frances (Applegate) Henderson Brown Atkin(1918-2014)

Cora Frances Applegate-Henderson-Brown-Atkin was born March 28, 1918, to William and Elizabeth Applegate. She passed from this world on March 18, 2014, in Spring, Texas.
She attended Dewey schools, graduated in 1936, then attended the Business College in Bartlesville in 1937. She married L. D. Henderson February 6, 1941. During World War II, they lived in California. After the war, they returned to Oklahoma for a short while, then moved to The Dalles, Oregon. Cora worked at The Dalles Tie Plant for the Railroad. They lived 11 years in Oregon before once again returning to Oklahoma. Cora was a longtime employee of Phillips Petroleum in the Supply and Transportation Department. L.D. owned his own business (F & S Welding). Both loved to camp and fish at the nearby lakes on weekends. After 35 years of marriage, L.D. passed.
Cora married Elmer Brown, a fellow avid dancer and traveler, in 1977, and he passed seven years later. She was a widow once again and joined the 55+ community and senior groups in Bartlesville and Dewey. She married Bob Atkin and they later parted. He passed away a few years later.
Cora lived six wonderfully fun and active years at Tallgrass Estates in Bartlesville. She moved to Spring, Texas, where she lived a year with daughter Jo Ann Burrell, then one and a half years with daughter Carolyn Young. Cora loved international travel, visiting Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, London, and Gabon where her daughters lived. Favorite pastimes were playing games and dancing. She was active to the very end.
She is survived by her two daughters Carolyn Young (widowed), and Jo Ann (Orta) Burrell and husband Ben; and three grandsons and their families: Justin and Allison Orta, their children Samantha and Douglas; David and Sara Orta, their children Sabrina and Susanna; and Rick and Teresa Orta, their children Gabriel, Victoria and Patrick.

She is survived by two stepsons, two stepdaughters, three step grandsons and six step-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews in Oregon, Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma, including nieces Judy & Bill Redding of Stillwater, OK, and Janie and Wayne Sell of Dewey.
She was the light of our lives. May that candle never burn out.
