Mrs. Dorothy Lee (Davis) Baker, 88, of Bartlesville, died at 4:15 A.M. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. She was a resident of Tallgrass Estates.
Mrs. Baker was born at Belvedere, KS, on August 19, 1925 the daughter of W.P. (Wes) and Edna Estelle (Stenger) Davis. She grew up in Ashland, KS and graduated from high school there. She attended Dodge City Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate and began teaching first and second grades at Sitka, KS.
She married Robert W. Baker on April 23, 1945 and they lived in Ashland in a home that Bob built for them. They moved to Wichita, KS. in 1950 when Mr. Baker began his employment with Boeing Aircraft. In 1959 he became an independent building contractor, with Mrs. Baker helping with the office work. Mrs. Baker loved being a homemaker, participating with her children in school and church activities. They moved to Bartlesville 1984 when Mr. Baker retired. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Hillside Christian Church in Nowata and regularly attended First Wesleyan Church in Bartlesville with her daughter and son-in-law.
Mrs. Baker is survived by two daughters: Glennie Tanner (Clark) of Derby, KS, and Joyce Colaw (Stephen) of Bartlesville; two brothers: Robert G. Davis of Ashland, KS, and William T. Davis of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren: Michael C. Tanner (Stephanie) of Camas, Washington, Julie M. Colaw of Bartlesville, Stephen Brent Colaw ( Becky) of Bakersfield, California and Patrick O. Colaw (Kylee) of Edmond, Oklahoma; thirteen great grandchildren: Allyson and Paul Tanner, Alexandria , Mitchell, Victoria Tate, James, Jason, David and Sarah Colaw, and Connor, Camden, Karsen and Kaeden Colaw. She also left a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Baker will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the First Wesleyan Church in Bartlesville. Pastor Joe Colaw of First Wesleyan and Pastor Ben Killion, former minister of Hillside Christian Church in Nowata, will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday at the Highland Cemetery in Ashland, KS, with her son-in-law, Pastor Clark Tanner of Countryside Christian Church in Wichita, KS. officiating.
Visitation and viewing will be held at the Stumpff Funeral Home until 9 pm on Friday evening and at the church on Saturday morning until the service hour. The casket will also be open prior to the graveside services on Sunday. The family will receive guests at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.
