Frances Wilhelm Shields (Chan) was born in Bartlesville, OK, on September 16, 1917, the third of five
daughters to John and Anna Mary Wilhelm. She passed away peacefully in Dallas, TX, on October 2, 2013,
with family at her side. Chan was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother,
sister and friend to many. She lived most of her life in Tulsa after meeting her husband Donald Shields who
played basketball for the Phillips 66 team. She was an accomplished golfer and tennis player with a competitive
streak that extended to bridge and other card and board games. Chan also loved the arts, gardening and decorating.
Even while raising six children Chan found time to give back and volunteered many hours at both St. Francis and
St. John's hospitals, St. Charles Guild and Philbrook Art Museum. Well into her 90s Chan enjoyed shopping and
kept her remarkable (and natural) black hair styled. She liked things "jazzy". Chan was preceded in death by her
husband Don, her son Donald, and sisters Anna Mary Binkley and Rita Bogle and is survived by her sisters
Catherine Linehan and Jean Wilhelm; her daughter Kathy and Daniel Keating of Tulsa; son Drew of Oklahoma
City and Las Vegas, NV; son Rick and wife Paula of Branson, MO; son Doug and his wife Marcia of Oklahoma
City, daughter Beth of Dallas, TX and daughter-in-law, Kay Shields of Tulsa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren
and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Breast Cancer
