Hazel Pauline (Spence) Garrett(1918-2013)

Hazel Pauline Garrett, born November 11, 1918 to Wilce Alexander and Ollie Mae Wilson (Scott) Spence. Hazel went to Heaven this day, March 10, 2013 with her daughters by her side.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Garrett will be held at 2:00 P.M. On Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Freewill Baptist Church in Barnsdall, with Pastor Rick Loggins, pastor of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reece Cemetery at Barnsdall under the direction of the Stumpff-Barnsdall Funeral Home. Pallbearers for Mrs. Garrett will be her grandsons Gary & Billy Eisenman, Noel, Jerrod and Dustin Garrett, David and Daniel McMullen, Jacob and John Garrett, and Josh, Keith and Ryan Ashlock.
The family will receive friends and have a visitation from 6 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday March 14, at the Stumpff Barnsdall Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garrett is survived by; two sons; Alfred Leon and Pat Garrett of Arcola, Ill., Jerry Carl and Kay Garrett of Barnsdall, Ok., four daughters; Shirley Jean Eisenman of Minco, Ok., Norma Joyce and David McMullen of Olive, Ok., Paulette Elaine and Ronnie Thompson of Barnsdall, Ok., Dianne and Harry Smith of Barnsdall, Ok. three sisters; Derlene Barkley of Hutchison, Ks., Geraldine Impson of Kellyville, Ok., Shirley Dierks of Hutchison, Ks. Fifteen grand children, 45 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by; Husband: Virgil Carl Garrett. By an infant son and infant daughter. Her parents; Wilce Spence and Ollie Scott. Brother: Albert Spence, Sisters; Ester Anthony, Wilma King, Alma Hicks, Grandchildren; Kevin Eisenman, Jamie Ashlock, and son in laws; David Brown, Bill Eisenman.
Hazel Pauline was born in Fort Cobb, Ok. She was one of eight children and lived in Fort Cobb, Ok. for most of her childhood before moving to Avant, Oklahoma. Soon after moving to Avant she met and married Virgil Carl Garrett. They were married on October 11, 1938. To this union they had eight children and were privileged to raise six.
Hazel's life was spent as a homemaker while also working at family businesses which included farming, ranching, restaurants and gas stations.
Hazel's passions were God and family, she was gifted in drawing and quilt making. She is described by her family as a gentle, loving, unselfish and faith filled person.
Hazel enjoyed family reunions at the lake, fishing, traveling with family or any gathering of family. Her home was always full, especially at meal times.
Hazel was widowed in 1991 after fifty-three years of marriage. She spent the next twenty years living with her daughters, Paulette Elaine Thompson, Dianne Marie Garrett and Norma Joyce McMullen. In doing so she had a profound impact on their children, her grandchildren.
For the past two years Hazel has resided at Heritage Villa in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and was a resident of Eastern Shore Medical Rehab facility in Daphne, Alabama.
Shopping at Wal-Mart, the Dollar Store, taking pictures and sipping hot chocolate from Starbucks and eating vanilla ice cream were some of her favorite things. Hazel read her Bible every morning and each evening before going to bed.
