Jim Thomas, 51, died Thursday in Dewey, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Jim was the owner of Bartlesville Auto Salvage, located along Hwy. 123.
James Lyle Thomas was born to Harold Lee and Nancy Sue Thomas on May 1, 1961, "Jim" was raised in Bartlesville and attended Bartlesville public schools. He was united in marriage with Melinda Carol Mills on December 17, 1990, in Harrison, Arkansas. They made their home in Bartlesville for a short while before moving to Dewey. Jim and Melinda were blessed with two sons, Kyle James and Ryan David, who are both students in Stillwater, Okla.
Jim worked in construction and the salvage business for many years. He worked all over the country doing auto recycling for several years, before buying Bartlesville Auto Salvage in 1997 from his dad Harold who had started the business in 1979. In addition to his lifelong love for classic motor cars, Jim enjoyed fishing and travelling, especially to Las Vegas.
Jim lived for his family. He combined his love for football with spending time with his family and friends, and he supported his kids in all of their sporting activities. Jim will be dearly missed by his loving family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Melinda Thomas of the Dewey home; his two sons Kyle James Thomas and Ryan David Thomas and his mother Nancy Sue Thomas of Bartlesville; He also leaves behind his brother Mark Thomas and sister Angel Thomas, both of Bartlesville; parents-in-law David and Barbara Mills of Bartlesville; and two brothers-in-law Allan Mills of Bartlesville, and Mark Mills and his wife Michelle of Tulsa. Jim is preceded in death by his father Harold Thomas; four brothers Michael Thomas, Mitchell Thomas and twin infants Edward and Eugene Thomas.
The family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, (918-534-3030), 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Sunday, October 7, 2012, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030. Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Dewey. Pastor Mark Wright will officiate. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Family Funeral Home.
