John Gwaltney passed away Monday, April 8, 2013.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 in the Walker-Brown Chapel with Dr. Joe Dan Fowler officiating. Interment will be in the Dewey Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #105 Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.
John Ray Gwaltney was born January 25, 1932 in Watonga, OK to Major John G. Bostic and Classie (Posey) Gwaltney. John graduated from Checotah High School and was a member of the State Runner-up Wildcat football team of 1949-50. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the US Army. He married Tessie Fay Sanders on August 23, 1957 in Stigler, OK. John was a member of Bartlesville First Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986 after 30 years of dedicated service. John was a life-long horseman and a 32nd Degree Mason, who recently was recognized for his service of 50 years to the organization. He attended OSU and was an avid OSU fan.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tessie of the home. One daughter, Debbie and husband Tom Loafman of Bartlesville and one son, Gary Gwaltney and wife Debbie of Olathe, KS. He was blessed with five grandchildren; Thomas and wife Ashton, Travis, Laura and husband Matt, Kyle, Cody and wife Sawyer. One brother, C.L Gwaltney, sister, Helen Henson, two brothers-in-law: Don Butler and wife Joyce, Larry Beil and wife Bobbie, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
