Mr. John Wesley Derricks, 84, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday April 16 at the White Rose Cemetery in Bartlesville.
Born on July 12, 1928 in Nowata County, Mr. Derricks was the eldest son of Roseburn and Tessie R. Van Derricks.
He was educated in the local school system and worked on the family farm for several years; however he spent the majority of his career employed with the City of Bartlesville Sanitation Department retiring in 1990.
His first wife, Mabel Louise (Landrum) Derricks preceded him in death in 1985. In 1990 he married the former Bertha Mae Riley of Independence, Kansas and the two of them made their home in Bartlesville until her death in 2004. Although Mr. Derricks never had biological children of his own he was a father figure to eleven nieces and nephews; ten step-children and Grandpa "Wes" to more than 31 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A very generous soul with a loving spirit, Mr. Derricks lived a full and happy life. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, working in his yard, cooking southern style food, and drinking cappuccinos. But his most favorite past time was fishing.
Mr. Derricks will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Stumpff Funeral Home Residence where family and friends may call for their visitation until he is removed for final rites.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; his first and second wife; and three siblings Clyde Lewis Moten, George Washington Moten and Mrs. Nancy G. Reed.
Surviving Mr. Derricks are his four siblings, Mrs. Lavenia Cooper, Hobart Lee Derrick Moten, Willis Ray Moten and William Gilbert Moten all of Lawrence, Kansas. Additional survivors include his step-children, LaDonna Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Robert Johnson of Leavenworth, Kansas; George Johnson of Bartlesville; Mose Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee and Joycelyn Frisco of Atlanta, Georgia.
