Pawhuska resident Maxine Ammons passed away Sunday, Oct, 28, 2012, in the Medicalodge of Dewey.
She was 85 years old.
Maxine was born Sept. 10, 1927 in Cleveland, Okla., the daughter of James Wesley and Augusta (Cole) Conner.
On April 6, 1947, she married Lawrence D. Ammons in Pawhuska. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2010.
Maxine had worked in the family business, Tri-Am, as a secretary when needed over the years, but enjoyed her role as homemaker the most. In her spare time, she loved being with her grandkids, mowing and working around the yard. She enjoyed fishing, sewing and doing various crafts.
At one point in their lives, Maxine and Lawrence could be seen out square dancing almost every Saturday night. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's group.
Surviving are her son Dean Ammons and wife, Kathy; her grandchildren, Brooke Brown and husband Brad, Justin, Kelli and Trina Ammons, Skylar and Kendall Ammons; great grandchildren Logan and Loryn Big Eagle, Jaron and Cade Ammons; siblings Melvin Carter and wife Anne, Thelma Carter Page and Darlene Carter Potter; along with a host of other family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Lawrence, Maxine was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Dee Ammons; grandson Larry Dee Ammons, Jr.; sister Pauline Conner Friend; and brother James Carter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov, 1, 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska. Pastor Ted Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy, Okla.
