Myrl Braxton Jowell battled pancreatic cancer for a year before he went home to Jesus on Saturday Sept. 01, 2012.
Myrl is survived by his best friend and wife Constance Geibel-Jowell (Connie), step-daughter Kari Snider (Travis, Alaina, Jenna), step-son Eric Stinson (Leia, Sierra, Adam, Sidney), sister Janet Van Zandt, nieces Stacy Gordon, Christy Pierson, and Donna Van Zandt.
Myrl was born in Los Angeles, Cal on March 16, 1949 and moved to Pawhuska in 1958. After graduating from Pawhuska High School in 1967, Myrl received an appointment to the United States Military Academy where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in General Engineering in 1971. He received his Masters Degree from Jacksonville State University in Public Administration in 1978.
Following his retirement after 20 years of serving in the U.S. Army (Ret. Major), Myrl worked for the Department of Energy at the Savannah River Plant, Aiken SC and also at Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site in Denver, CO. From Denver, Myrl went on to work in Washington, DC as a contractor to various government agencies. His final job was as a Senior Consultant at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Ga.
The Celebration of Life and Thanksgiving Service will be Sept. 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30345.
