Patsy Lee Headlee Haws, 75, of Bartlesville, died at her home on September 15, 2012.
Patsy was born June 5, 1937 in Vinita, Oklahoma to William Dee and Sybil Smith Headlee. She spent her childhood in Big Cabin, OK where she was an active participant in school sports, graduating from Big Cabin High School in 1954. Patsy attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Oklahoma State University – graduating from OSU in 1958 with a B.S. Degree in Business Education.
Immediately following graduation, Patsy commenced her 27-year career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville. She started work as a secretary in the Research and Development Department, and later transferred to the Engineering Department, continuing in various areas of administrative responsibilities until her early retirement in 1985.
While in R & D, she met and married John Russell Haws on May 9, 1964. Patsy and J. R. enjoyed life, and especially their life together – they loved traveling, whether it be scouting out the back trails of Oklahoma or any other state for that matter, they always ventured back to their favorite hangout – the Taos – Santa Fe area. While scouting the back roads, one of their greatest pleasures was in learning the culture of the natives, making lasting friendships with many of the native artists. In addition to their appreciation of the Native American arts, they followed the Ragtime music festivals in many states for many years.
Patsy was a member of East Cross United Methodist Church, Hillcrest Country Club and the HCC Ladies Golf Association. She was an avid golfer and played several times a week when Mother Nature allowed.
Patsy is survived by three cousins; Tim and Mary Kilpatrick, Lenapah, OK; Mikey King, Springfield, MO; and Bob and Lahona Young, Vinita, OK and a multitude of friends and extended family. She will be remembered fondly and greatly missed.
Patsy was preceded in death by J. R., her husband of 44 years; her parents, Bill and Sybil Headlee; and one brother, William Eugene Headlee.
