Phyllis Elaine (Dye) Kern(1951-2014)

Phyllis Elaine (Dye) Kern, 62, passed away Monday January 13, 2014 in Owasso, OK after an extended illness. A private memorial and wake were held in Skiatook, OK Saturday January 18, 2014. It was a wonderful celebration of 50 plus family and friends.
Phyllis Elaine was born on July 28, 1951 to Rex J. Dye and Doris Jean (Ward) Dye in Bartlesville, OK. She grew up in Nowata, OK. During her secondary years, she excelled in many areas. By the time she graduated high school, she had many achievements: Student Council representative, State Honor Society, Nowata Band Twirler and Percussionist, The Tom Mix Twirling Trophy, Annual Staff, FTA, JETS, 4-H secretary, District and Local Science Fair winner, VFW Speech contest winner twice.
After high school, Phyllis attended NEO A&M College, Miami, OK on scholarship. She twirled a baton for the NEO Band. She taught Twirling for years with Mrs. Stinnett in Nowata. After one year of college, she married Fred Secondine. She went to work for Phillips Petroleum. Later Todd was born. She continued her education at night. She later divorced, and met and married Dave Kern. Michael was born, their last child. A few years later she graduated with a Masters degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University.
Phyllis continued to work for Phillips. She had a great career with them that spanned 25 years. She worked hard and moved up quickly. She was very intelligent. Her last job with Phillips was in Marketing Aviation where she was a Senior Analyst. She was responsible for the creation of a major program for Aviation that Phillips used. I understand the industry is still using this program today. Brilliant woman. She traveled all over the world. While she was working and raising a family, she gave back to the community. She was Treasurer of the Kiwanis Kiddie Park for years. She taught Sunday School at East Cross Methodist church for years. She judged swim competitions hosted by Phillips. And she and Dave were marathon joggers. She qualified and ran the Boston Marathon twice.
After time with Phillips, Phyllis started her own business Phoenix Fuels. Some years later she went to work for Blue Stem Fuels, her last job.
Phyllis had many talents and achievements but, her heart was always with her children. The grandkids came along and she enjoyed them so….Phyllis was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
