Jick was born on September 17, 1946 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the son of Searles G. and Elvina M. (Pierce) Grant. He graduated from Ochelata High School in 1964. On February 28, 1970, Jick and Janet Myers were united in marriage in Bartlesville. He began working for the Bartlesville Fire Department on August 15, 1972 and after twenty seven years of service, Jick retired on December 31, 1999. He loved the time he served and especially cooking for the guys on his shift. In 2001, after retiring from the fire department, he began working for the Caney Valley Conservation District and was currently employed there. For the last two years he served as the OACDE Area III Representative. Jick enjoyed cooking, smoking meat such as brisket and ribs, raising cattle and visiting with people. Jick never met a stranger. There wasn't a pig show or ballgame too far away for him to support his kids or grandkids. Most of all, he loved his family and the time he shared with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Janet; one sister, Jane Harwell and one brother, Marvin Grant.
Jick is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Gosney and her husband, Troy, of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Kelly Younkin and her husband, Mike, of Somerset, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Paige, Kate and Grant Gosney, all of Shattuck, Oklahoma; one brother, Curtis Sydebotham of Ochelata; one aunt, Betty Meek of Copan; nieces and nephews, Kim Stillwell, Tim Sydebotham, Terri Moberly, Mike Grant; other relatives and many friends.
