Thomas E. "Tom" Swift(1923-2013)

Thomas E. Swift, 89, of Wichita Falls, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013.
A rosary service is set for 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 7 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home and a funeral mass will be said by Rev. William J. Swift on Friday, March 8 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Tom will be buried in Bartlesville, OK, on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Tom was born on September 28, 1923, in Bartlesville, OK, to Frank and Helen Swift. After attending grade and high schools in Bartlesville, he enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served from 1942 to 1945. He became a commissioned Flying Officer and flew 47 single engine fighter plane combat missions with the Ninth Air Force in the European Theatre of Operations and was honorably discharged in October, 1945. He worked his way through college and graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Business Admin. He joined Moran Bros., Inc. and retired as Vice President-Marketing after 34 years of service.
Tom moved to Wichita Falls in 1953 and on December 31, 1955, he married the love of his life Lois King of Wolco, OK. They were happily married until her passing on April 1, 1968.
Tom was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and also served on the Parish Council. All five of his children attended Catholic school and graduated from Notre Dame HS for which he was very proud. He served on the Notre Dame HS Board of Directors and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past director of the International Association of Drilling Contractors and a member of the North Texas Oil & Gas Association. He was a past member of the American Petroleum Institute. After Tom retired from Moran Bros. he worked for Cobra Oil & Gas from 1983 to 1991. He was elected to and served on the Wichita Falls City Council from 1983 to 1985. He spent his last years devoted to his grandchildren and attended as many Notre Dame HS sporting events as possible. He always offered encouraging words from the sidelines.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother Frank Swift and sister-in-law Ilene Swift. He is survived by his brother Rev. William J. Swift of Tulsa, OK; his sister Sr. Mary Grace Swift of Maple Mount, KY; a cousin Mary Basden and husband Ted of Houston, TX; five children, Sharon Keeney and husband Mike of Houston, TX; Tom Swift, Jr. of Watertown, WI; Elaine Swift, Joe Swift and Hallie Otto and husband Jim all of Wichita Falls. Eight grandchildren, Greg Wasinger, Jr. and wife Katie; Shane Glasgow; Kim Glasgow; Joie Otto; Danny Otto; Andy Swift; Maggie Swift and Jaclyn Swift. Two great grandchildren, Trey Wasinger and Hayden Swift; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
