Mr. Vernon Ray "Buck" Lewis, 83, of Bartlesville, died at 11:33 P.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Adams Blvd Church of Christ with Mr. David Hammonds officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105 and Masonic rites will be accorded by the Bartlesville Masonic Lodge # 284 AF & AM. Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday at the New Mount Hope Cemetery at Galesburg, Kansas directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Casket escorts will include Rob R. Montee, Kyle Lewis, Tevin Austin, Riley Volmer, Brent Baker, Braden Baker and Will Hart.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 491, Dewey, Oklahoma, 74029.
Mr. Lewis was born June 28, 1929 to Raymond G. and Gladys N. (Hughes) Lewis on a farm in rural Thayer, Kansas. He attended Valley Grade School, south of Galesburg, Kansas, Elk City Grade School and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1946. He attended various colleges, Wichita University, Parsons Junior College, Pittsburg Teacher's College and Wesleyan University, majoring in accounting, and graduating with an Associate's Degree. He was married to Betty M. Houser on February 22, 1948. Mr. Lewis served in the Korean War
from August 18, 1950 to April 15, 1952 in the U.S. Army
and in the Naval Air Force Reserve from 1952 to 1954. He was the former Register of Deeds of Labette County, Kansas from 1956 to 1960. He retired from Phillips Petroleum after 25 years of service then opened the Lewis Accounting and Investment office for eight years. A long time Mason, he was admitted at Adams Lodge # 63 and was a perpetual member of the Bartlesville Masonic Lodge # 284 AF & AM and had received the 50 Year Service Award. He was also a member of additional Masonic bodies such as York Rite Bodies where he was the recipient of the 50 Year pin, 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Akdar Shrine-Tulsa, Wasono Shrine Club-Bartlesville and he had performed Masonic funeral services for years. He was a longtime member of the Adams Blvd. Church of Christ where he had served as Treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lewis, one son, Craig Lewis and wife Jodie of Saguache, Colorado, Elvera M. Montee and husband Rob of Parsons, Kansas, Sandra K. Lewis of Independence, Kansas and Deborah R. Riley and husband Jim of Collinsville, OK., a sister, Joan Miller and husband R.V. of Missoula, Montana, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lewis.
