Tribute by son Dan DeMier:
The New York Yankees gave him a tryout in 1958, but yesterday (October 6, 2012), Heaven's team drafted a great one. After surviving years with diabetes, three heart attacks and breaking his back in two places, he got a curveball he couldn't hit, following an outpatient orthoscopic surgery on his shoulder.
