Gary Owen "Runnin Bear" Babb, 66, of Bartlesville, passed away Tuesday with loved ones by his side in Bartlesville.

Gary was born the son of William Owen and Delia (Hamlin) Babb on September 4, 1947, in Independence, KS. He also was raised by his guardian Dickie Rae Horn (Dobbs) while he was young. He attended grade school in Sevrey, KS, then high school in Independence for three years before moving to Copan and attending Copan High school graduating in 1965. Babb played halfback on the Copan High School football team and was instrumental in leading the team that rallied to the 1965 Class C playoffs. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1965 and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and Vietnam National Defense Medal before his discharge in 1971.
Babb enjoyed living in the country with his horse Lucy and his dog Ricky. He loved the outdoors, riding Harleys with his friend Rick, and spending time with friends. He was a carpenter and he could do just about anything with his hands. Babb had a big heart and used his talents to help others. He was a good man and everybody that knew him loved him.
Babb is survived by his loving family, Daisy Babb Mathews, Carla Jo and Scott Upton, Lanie and Tim Farris, Rob and Melody Anderson, 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His large, extended family included two daughters Mona and Michael Allain, and Mandy and Shane Ingram; grandchildren Kaylee and Cole Ingram; one son Wyatt and Necia Seward; grandchildren Riya and Koen; two brothers Carl Babb and Blain Babb; four stepbrothers, Ken Suggs, Ben Suggs, Gary Mackey and Danny Mackey; his dear friends, Alvin Bible, Rick Ennis, Charles Brown, John Collier and Laura Worten; and a host of other friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Donna Fox.
