James Clarence Carroll, 90, retired Phillips Petroleum Company Engineer, died at 9:55 A.M. on Monday May 26, 2014 in Bartlesville, OK.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11:00 A.M. St. James Catholic Church in Bartlesville. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Jim was born on January 7, 1924 in Paris, Texas to Thomas Jefferson and Annie Pearl (Luckey) Carroll. He attended 4th Ward School and graduated from Paris High School in 1941. He attended Paris Junior College until he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps and served as an instructor and pilot in World War II from 1943-1945. Following his discharge, he continued his education at the University of Kansas, graduating in 1949 with a degree in architecture. While at K.U., he met and married Charlotte M. Bartley in June, 1948 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Wichita, Kansas. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company for 33 years retiring in1985.
Jim was active in volunteer work as a Boy Scouts troop leader for 5 years, a member of the Bluestem Girl Scouts Building Committee, helped with the Phillips 66 Splash Club, delivered commodities in Washington County, volunteered at Mary Martha Outreach for 10 years, and assisted at Kane Elementary library. Through the years, he enjoyed participating in recreational sports activities with family and friends. Jim was a very loving and caring man who was devoted to God, family, co-workers, friends, and sports buddies. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife Charlotte of the home, by three daughters, Charlotte Byers (Jon) of Anchorage, Alaska, Beth Carroll of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Jamie Cooper (Curtis) of Eagle Mountain, Utah, by a sister Doris Mae Moffett of Paris, Texas, and by six grandchildren, Kathleen Shaffer, Daniel Scott, Robert Byers, Brady Byers, Nicholas Cooper, Conner Cooper, and by five great grandchildren, Patti Griffin, Tanis Shaffer, Kitiara Shaffer, Avery Scott, Aaron Scott. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lynn Carroll Scott in 2010, and by a brother Edward Mason Carroll of Paris, Texas.
