Arthur Newton Doherty was born July 29, 1928 in Bartlesville to William "Bill" and Elsie (Huff) Doherty Sr. He married his beloved Emma Belle Lemon on June 11, 1955 in Nowata, OK. Arthur proudly served his country in WWII in the 26th Infantry of the US Army. He served from April 1946-June 1949 when he was honorably discharged and decorated with a WWII Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. He was stationed in Germany while serving his country.
Arthur retired from being an inspector after 21 years of service in 1992 at Reda-Pump. He then worked as a people greeter at Wal-Mart for the next seven years. He was ordained as a minister and received his license on July 2, 1978. He married numerous couples that he considered friends and family. Having a passion for playing the guitar and singing gospel music, he was able to put these two to use when he joined the Pentecostal Tabernacle of God Church in 1967. There he taught the adult Sunday School class and ministered through song and worship. After 41 years, he began attending Liberty Chapel and more recently, Revival Time Outreach. Arthur enjoyed fishing and photography, watching football, boxing and John Wayne movies.
Arthur is survived by one son, Michael Doherty and wife Deborah of Bartlesville and son-in-law, David Cox of Bartlesville. Three step-sons; Rick, Bill and Tom Leeson, two sisters; Lucille Banker of Texas and Ester May Doherty of Ponca City. Arthur was preceded in death by the love of his life, Emma Belle Doherty, his parents, two daughters; Rita Ann Doherty and Deborah Kay Cox, three sisters, four brothers, unnamed sibling twins and a grandson, Joe Allen Doane.
Arthur loved to minister, no matter where he was or who you were. He had so much compassion in every endeavor he faced. That compassion will live on in our hearts, as will he. Arthur was a great father, grandfather, husband and friend. He will be greatly missed.
