Carlotta Brown Baird departed this life at the age of 66 years at her home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on May 22, 2013. She was born on January 8, 1947, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Carl Cecil Brown and Lora Mae Fry Brown. She participated in numerous school activities including cheerleading from junior high through high school. She graduated as Salutatorian with the class of 1964.
Having chosen a career in nursing, she earned a Baccalaureate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1968 and the Masters of Nursing Science Degree in 1993, both from the University of Arkansas.
She and Jerry D. Cherry, a native of Pocahontas, were married in August of 1964 and established their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where she worked as a Registered Nurse and he worked as an accountant in the international Department of Phillips Petroleum Company. Their first son, Brian, was born in November of 1972. In 1975 the family transferred with Phillips to London, England where second son Steven was born in September of that year. They had other transfers to Jakarta, Indonesia in 1977; Bartlesville in 1980; Singapore in 1983 and Houston in 1985. In 1986 the family moved to Springdale, Arkansas where she practiced nursing and he owned and accounting practice.
On August 28, 2000, she married Dale S. Baird, a retired engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company and they have made their home in Bartlesville. They spent the next twelve years traveling foreign and domestically, visiting children scattered throughout the United States and in general just "decorating each other's lives" as they had vowed to do. Mrs. Baird was a Christian and worshiped with the Adams Blvd. Church of Christ in Bartlesville where she served on the missions committee. She was active in the Downtown Kiwanis Club, having served as President and Secretary.
Mrs. Baird is survived by her husband, Dale, of the home; two sons Brian (Charity) Cherry of Tulsa and Steven (Amanda) Cherry of Springdale and four daughters: Betty Jane (Phil) Eubanks and Terry (Marty) Davis both of Houston; Judy (Tom) Hinds of Tigard, Oregon; and Martha (Brian) Hooker of Salem, Virginia. She has fourteen beloved grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Locally Mrs. Baird is survived by her brother, David William Brown, Lucy Brown, niece Karla Brigham and great nephew Chandler Brigham; niece Michelle (Roger) Jones and family and niece Tracy (Kenny) Komm and family and several cousins.
