Henry Thomas Townley, 77, resident of Barnsdall, died at 1:25 PM on Tuesday February 19, 2013 in Bartlesville.
Funeral Services for Mr. Townley will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday February 23, 2013, at the Light House Family Worship Center in Barnsdall, with Pastor Barry Gott, pastor of the Light House Family Worship, and Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reece Cemetery at Barnsdall under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Stumpff Barnsdall Funeral Home at Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
Full Military Honors will be presented at the Graveside by the members of the Barnsdall American Legion, Webster-Schrack Post #277.
Mr. Townley was born February 23, 1935 at Barnsdall in a log cabin on Bird Creek, on the Labadie Ranch to Alonzo Cleveland and Mary Alice (Wilson) Townley. He was raised and received his early education at Barnsdall, working in the carpentry shop in High School, and also played on the football & baseball teams while in school. He graduated there with the Class of 1954. Following his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 1, 1954, and served in the U.S. Army, near Fairbanks, Alaska for most of his service time, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1962. He was married to the former Carolyn Joy Lorton on December 23, 1955 at Barnsdall, OK. After his discharge he returned to the Barnsdall area and began his working career as a truck driver for various companies including, Osage Oil Co, Tristate Trucking Co., and hauling explosives, as a dump truck driver, and also as a Long haul driver, for which his C.B. handle was "Tight Chain". His hobbies included fishing, squirrel and mushroom hunting, shooting pool, dominoes, playing cards, and loved a good cold beer.
Mr. Townley was president of the Barnsdall VFW. Lodge, and a member of the Webster –Schrack Post #227 of the Barnsdall American Legion, and also a member of the Nazarene Church in Barnsdall.
Mr. Townley is survived by his daughter Mrs. Rela Jean "Sissy" Frazier, of Hominy, Oklahoma, and by his son Tommy Levi "Tom Tom" Townley, of Barnsdall, and by one brother, James Townley of Barnsdall, by six grandchildren, Beau Townley, Austin Frazier, Dustin Frazier, Skyler Davis, Nicki Mullin, and Whitney Townley, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by one daughter, Rhonda Joy Townley on March 24, 1961. And by five brothers; Almas, Lucian, John, Leo, and Leburn Townley, and by three sisters, Lillian Elder, Thelma White, and Velma Smith, and by a son-in-law David Glen "Butch" Frazier Jr. in 1999.
