James Edward Scales, 59, of Wann, died Monday in Bartlesville.

James was born on June 11, 1954, the son of Hilton and Mildred Scales in Girard KS. He was raised and educated in Girard and graduated from Girard High School in 1972. James joined the U.S. Army in 1973 and after basic training, he was deployed to Vietnam. After his military service, he continued his education at Washburn College and Pittsburgh State earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. James was employed with Boeing in Wichita, KS, and worked in its aviation avionics department. He then used his skills to open his own business in the aviation industry. James most recently worked with Speer's manufacturing for 10 plus years before retiring.
James valued living a simple life. His passions included fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He raised his own chickens on his land in Wann. He was easy to get along with and had a good sense of humor. His love and joy were his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
James is survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Kinsman of Kansas City, MO, and Billy Gilliland of Wann; three great grandchildren, Preston, Ciera and Dawson Kinsman of Kansas City; five brothers, Lonnie, Elmer, Gary, Pete and Clifford Scales; four sisters, Carolyn Hallacy, Linda Davis, Shirley Franklin and Roberta Rodriguez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for James will be held in the future at the family burial plot in Girard, KS. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com. Arrangements are under the direction Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.
