James McFarland Obituary
Dr. James Riley McFarland, 86, of Bartlesville, died at 1:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2012 after many years of decline from Alzheimer's.
Funeral services for Dr. McFarland will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Scott of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church officiating. Private interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Memorial funds have been established and those who wish may send their contributions to Hope Hospice, 8291 North Owasso Expressway, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055 or to the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 801 S.E. Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74006.
Dr. McFarland was born on September 1, 1925 in Depew, Oklahoma to John B. and Peggy Anna (Orr) McFarland. He joined the Navy at age 16 and served 4 years during World War II on a destroyer. Afterwards he returned to Stroud, Oklahoma to complete high school, later graduating from OU Medical School as an OB/GYN. He moved to Bartlesville in 1957 to begin practice. He delivered over 5000 babies and was a well known and a respected physician. He loved his work! He was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, served his church for many years, was instrumental in forming of the Family Planning Clinic, the County Health Director and started a Medical Explorer Scout Troop.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sylvia McFarland, five children, Clayton Riley McFarland and Hayden Edward McFarland both of the home, James Lynn McFarland of Minnesota, Paul Claude McFarland of Norman, Okla., Cristin A. Milner of Tulsa, two step daughters, Kim Toulouse and Keven Woodall both of Bartlesville, three granddaughters, Jaimie McFarland, Bridget McFarland and Alex Woodall, two sisters, Fran Salih of Bartlesville and Shirley Cook of Pensacola, Florida, a number of nieces and nephews and his devoted caretaker, Donna Newsome. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a daughter, Heather Henson.

Dr. McFarland was my doctor while I was pregnant with my son, he was a gentle and wonderful doctor but unfortunately for me he went out of town the day before my son was born, I always wished he had been the one to deliver my son. My sympathy to his family and friends.

He was a kind man. He delivered me, my brother, and two of my children over a span of 20 years. Helped me through the death of my little girl. He always had a smile and it was apparent that he knew God. The world is a darker place and I am blessed for having crossed paths in the life. My condolences to his family and many friends.

He is receiving his reward for all of the wonderful things he accomplished during his life and ushering so many young lives into the world. I loved him dearly. He was always so much fun to be around. I will miss him.
