Mr. Joseph Francis Korner, 88, of Bartlesville, died at 1:29 P.M. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Jerry Rutherford officiating. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Archie Fernandez officiating and directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Full military rites will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105.
A memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the , P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1125.
Mr. Korner was born March 18, 1925 at Frontenac, Kansas, the son of Joe J. and Mary Korner. He grew up and attended schools in Frontenac and graduated from high school there in May of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July of 1943 where he served in the Pacific during World War II as a First Class Petty Officer and received the Bronze Star. He received an Honorable Discharge February 6, 1946. Upon returning home he attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg. On December 1, 1947 he was employed with the McNally Corporation in Pittsburg where he worked in the engineering department. He and Ellen Louise Dray were married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac on November 19, 1949. They made their home in Pittsburg before moving to Bartlesville in August 1951 where he was employed with Phillips in the engineering department until his retirement in August 1985. He is a member of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Frontenac. He loved to garden and work in the yard. As a draftsman, he had drawn up the plans for his own home as well as several other homes constructed in Bartlesville.
He is survived by his wife of the home and sons; Barry Joe Korner and his wife Mariette of Tulsa; Daniel Eugene Korner and his wife Doris of Oklahoma City; David Allan Korner and his wife Lisa A. of Cranberry Township, PA; Bryan Wayne Korner and his wife Lisa J of Jenks, OK; and Robert Lee Korner of Broken Arrow, OK; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
