Juanita M. Birmingham, 87, longtime Nowata area resident died at 10:15 P.M. Tuesday September 25th in Bartlesville.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Birmingham will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday September 29th at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Nowata, with Rev. Philip Crowley, pastor of the Church and her grandchildren officiating. Cremation and funeral services are under the direction of the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to her church the New Life Assembly of God Church 126 N. Cedar St. Nowata, Oklahoma 74048.
Mrs. Birmingham was born on July 6, 1925 in Saffell, Arkansas to James Thomas and Ollie Lea (Lockomy) Allen. She was raised and received her education at Saffell and Strawberry Arkansas. She was married to William Troy Birmingham on December 18, 1943, at Cord, Arkansas. They made their home in Arkansas for a short time, coming to the Bixby, Oklahoma area in 1949, and then later to Nowata in 1951. Most of their married life was spent in Nowata, where Mr. Birmingham was employed by Oakley Pontiac in Bartlesville, and later owned his own car dealership, Birmingham Motors.
Mrs. Birmingham has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in various nursing homes as well as Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999. She was an active member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Nowata where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Missionettes teacher, working in children's programs, and the women's group all of her adult life. She was affectionately known as "Grabble" by her grandchildren, many friends, and family. She was dedicated to her family and grandchildren, as well as her church family.
Mrs. Birmingham is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Janice Gray and her husband Wayne of Searcy Arkansas, Mrs. Janette Gray and her husband, Bob, of Winfield, Kansas, and by Troyce Davis, of Nowata, Oklahoma. Also, by nine grandchildren Krissa Gordon and husband, Daniel, of Mountainberg, Arkansas, Larry Gray and wife Tammy of Beebe, Arkansas, Shelley Teague and husband Brent of Abijon, Ivory Coast-Africa, Rob Gray of Hinton, Oklahoma, Cheryl Cook and husband, Nathan, of Dodge City, Kansas, Tim Davis and wife Angie of Greenwood, Indiana, Tana Haas and husband Greg of Nowata, Oklahoma, Julie Sanders, of Nowata, and Rusty Davis and wife Jill of Bixby, Oklahoma. Also survived by 23 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, her Sister-in-Law Mrs. Ruby Crafton of Wagoner, Oklahoma and by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Birmingham was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband William Troy Birmingham on May 19, 1977, and by three brothers: Sherum, Bill and Otis Allen, by a twin sister, Lolita Hoover.
Open visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday 9:00am to 8:00pm at Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home.
