Major Leroy Henry "Lee" Acridge, (USAF)RET, 88, died at 10:50 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Little Kansas Cemetery at Little Kansas, Oklahoma with Jerry Bromley of Bunyard Community Church in Winslow, Arkansas officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside and arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Flint Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, #3 Hidden Valley Trails, Kansas, Oklahoma 74347.
Major Acridge was born at Coffeyville, Kansas on October 28, 1924 the son of William Henry and Esther (Agren) Acridge. He grew up and received his education in the areas around Coffeyville, Kansas and Altamont, Kansas and he graduated from Altamont High School. He then went to California to work in the shipyards until enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1943. He served in the Air Corp as a Bombadier on B-29 aircraft in World War II and B-26 aircraft in Korea. He then transferred to Military Air Transport in C-126 and C-132 aircraft and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Major on August 31, 1963. He was employed as an REA agent in Bartlesville, at Stapleton's in Coffeyville and had worked at Metal Goods Manufacturing in Bartlesville and Reda Pump. He was married to Martha Wright in Coffeyville, Kansas on October 1, 1946. Following his Air Force retirement and employment in Bartlesville and Coffeyville, they moved to Flint Ridge, Oklahoma to make their home in 1986 and she preceded him in death on September 24, 1991. He was married to Carol L. (Nilges) Featherby on March 2, 1992 at Winslow, Arkansas. They made their home at Flint Ridge until moving to Siloam Springs, Arkansas in 2004 and then to Bartlesville in November of 2008. He loved to garden, work with various arts and crafts materials, collect coins and spend time with his grandkids.
Mr. Acridge is survived by his wife, Carol L. Acridge of Bartlesville, two sons, Michael Acridge and wife Debbie of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Kelly Acridge and wife Jackie of Cripple Creek, Colorado, two daughters, Patty Hoskin and husband Larry of Fredricksburg, Virginia and Chris Ann Ridenoure and husband Dennis of Winslow, Arkansas, two step sons, Curtis Featherby and wife Lorie of Oswego, Kansas and Chris Featherby and wife Cresta of Bartlesville, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lloyd Acridge.
