Maxine M. Brown, of Pawhuska Okla., passed away Oct. 9, 2012.

She was born to Mabel and the late Raymond Miles on Jan. 25, 1939 in Pawhuska, Okla.
She was the first black woman to graduate for Pawhuska High School in 1957.
Ms. Brown marred Mr. Odell Brown of Tulsa in 1977.
Maxine was a home caretaker and tutor for the Pawhuska After School Program and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Ms. Brown was the foster mother to six children and an active member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother and sister June and husband Earl Gilkey. She was blessed with several nieces, nephews, family and many friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her father and sister Barbara Miles-Harris and brother James Miles.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 200 S. Kihekah Street in Pawhuska, Okla. Arrangements are by Reynolds Funeral Services of Tulsa, Okla.
