Melvin Ray Russell, 91, resident of Dewey, died at 10:15 PM on Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday April 1, 2013, in the Westside Baptist Church in Dewey, Oklahoma with Rev. Michael Diggs officiating. Interment will be in the Dewey Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

Melvin Ray Russell was born March 26, 1921 at Copeland, Texas to Lee Andrew and Delia (Morris) Russell. He was raised and received his education in Dewey, Oklahoma. Melvin was married to Frances Armelia Colbert on September 26, 1941 at Dewey. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1991. Mr. Russell was employed ft the Dewey- Portland Cement Company in Dewey until the 1960's. After the plant closed he became the director of maintenance for the Bartlesville YMCA. Melvin was married to Sadie Louise Sayles on September 9, 1992 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After employed with the YMCA in the 1960's he retired in 1993. Mr. Russell was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an excellent cook.
Survivors include: his wife Sadie Louise Russell of the family home in Dewey; two daughters Marva Louise Smiles and Rhonda Marie McIntosh and her husband Kenneth all of Dewey; fifteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Russell was also preceded in death by his parents; one son Ronnie Russell; two daughters Charlotte Baker and Ruby Lee Carter; five brothers Bud, Nig, Babe, Arthur D. and Son Russell; six sisters L.E. Russell, Mattie Russell, Ruby Nolan, Vera Doughlas, Georgia Titsworth and Lula Mae Flowers. Friends who wish may sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.stumpff.org.
