Rev. Merlin C. Neely, 95, resident of Oglesby, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Bartlesville.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday in the Oglesby Assembly of God Church at Oglesby with Pastor Randy Keller officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fisk-Leffler American Legion Post # 334 of Ramona. Interment will be in the Oglesby Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

Merlin Clarence Neely was born October 6, 1917 at Rifle, Colorado to Edson and Nola (Scott) Neely. He was raised and received his education in the Oglesby, Ochelata and Ramona area, graduating from Ramona High School in 1935. He was married to Wilma Lea Huff on October 15, 1937 at Claremore, Oklahoma. Mr. Neely owned and operated Neely Grocery in Ochelata, Oklahoma before moving to California to work in the Ship Yards during WWII. Mr. and Mrs. Neely both worked in the Ship Yards and Mr. Neely joined the Merchant Marines. After his military services they moved back to Ramona and worked on the family farm. He began a career with Phillips Petroleum Company as a Laboratory Technician until retiring. Mr. Neely entered the Ministry at age fifty and worked as a missionary in Arizona, South Dakota, Florida and New Mexico, working with the Navajos, Apache, Sioux and Seminole tribes. Mr. Neely was a member of the Oglesby Assembly of God Church and very active in the Oglesby Community. He was a member of the Ramona American Legion where he served as Chaplain for many years.
Survivors include; his daughter Susan Moore and her husband Gary of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one son Phillip Neely and his wife Cheryl of Salida, Colorado; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Neely was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one son Eddie Neely; two sisters Gladys McKissick and Iva Greenwood.
