Donald Howard Burpo was born on December 17, 1941 in Cushing, Oklahoma. He was the son of Loyd Vernon and Ruby Ethel (Leach) Burpo.
Don attended Cushing public schools, graduating as Valedictorian of the class of 1959 from Ponca City, Oklahoma High School. He received the prestigious honor of being named a recipient of a four-year academic scholarship by Conoco Oil Company to a college of his choice. His undergrad days were spent at Southern Nazarene University, graduating summa cum laude. He went on to pursue and received a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from Oklahoma State University.
During Don's lifetime, he authored three books, one of which is entitled "Ultraviolet Spectral Studies of Conjugative Effects Between Adjacent Unsaturated".
Don's career path included working as a Research Chemist for Kerr McGee Oil Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Don's life revolved around his family and his church. He was a student of the Bible and a faithful attendee of the Nazarene Church.
Survivors include two sons, Todd Burpo and his wife, Sonja, of Imperial, Nebraska, and Scott Burpo and his wife, Becki, also of Imperial; daughter, Marilyn Burpo of Bartlesville; one brother, Wes Burpo and his wife, Joyce, of Noblesville, Indiana; one sister, Ernestine Buchanan and her husband, Terry, of Mansfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Cassie, Brian, Colton, Adam, Andrew, Colby, Sarah and Emily; two nieces, Dana and Paula Kay; and two nephews, Mark and Tony.

Services for Mr. Burpo will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM in the First Church of the Nazarene, Bartlesville. The officiants will be Pastors Russell Hosey and Dan Dennison. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
