Mr. Douglas V. Mitchell, 81, retired independent oil and gas producer went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Doug was born to parents Orville and Nora (Vickers) Mitchell on August 21, 1932 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Doug was raised in that city and after graduating College High in 1950 he attended Oklahoma State University. Upon receipt of his Bachelor of Science degree in General Forestry he became an engineer in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged as lieutenant in 1956 and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina pursuing graduate studies at North Carolina State University. He attained his Master's degree in Wood Technology. Thereafter, Doug accepted a position as a research engineer for the Formica Corporation plants in Farmville, North Carolina and Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1961 Doug returned to Bartlesville to work in his family's oil company. In 1975 Doug founded DJ Enterprises in Nowata, Oklahoma. He ran that successful company until his retirement from the oil and gas industry in 1988.
Doug was an avid woodsman and a published author. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and building beautiful furniture. Doug dearly loved both his family and his savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Living Word Family Church.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, brother Phillip Mitchell, brother Jay Mitchell, and son Bill Harper. Survivors included Doug's devoted wife, Ginger Mitchell of Nowata, Children James Mitchell of Hermosa Beach, California, Constance Bailey of Consejo Village, Belize, Katherine Mitchell of Phoenix, Arizona, Elizabeth Mitchell of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, David Harper of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Eric Harper of Nowata, Oklahoma; Grandchildren Charles Bailey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ashley Davis of Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Adam Mitchell of Phoenix, Arizona, Erica Kirsop of El Cajon, California, and Chance Harper of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Great-Grandchildren Creegan Bailey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Tyrson Kirsop of El Cajon, California.
Graveside services are scheduled for June 23, 2014 at 1000 hours within the Bartlesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
