After a long Illness, on July 20, 2014 Barbara Ann Wood Courtney went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Barbara was raised in Bartlesville & graduated from Col-High in May 1947. On August 1, 1947 Barbara & Howard Conway Courtney, Jr. were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church. Soon after they moved to Stillwater where the both attended O.S.U.. Upon graduating they returned to Bartlesville to live & eventually raise a family.
Barbara's main passion in Life was art. In a 1995 newspaper article, she stated, "I guess I can say that my direction was pretty much determined in the third grade. I have always loved learning & always tried to excel in all my classes, but when my third grade art teacher put one of my drawings on display for the whole world to see, my destiny was sealed." Barbara has become a nationally recognized artist who has won numerous top awards, best of show, first place as well as being featured in the American Artist & Art of the West magazine. She has also been featured in Who's Who in American Art Works. Barbara has a unique on location style of painting that added realistic mood & light to her extraordinary work. She has studied under Virginia Rodecker in Tulsa & many other contemporary masters of the art including, John C Peller, Tod Goerschner & Ziang Zhang. Barbara has taught workshops on locations across the U.S. when not on location, she worked out of her art studio on Grand Lake & taught her students in Grove & Joplin. She has served as Bartlesville Art Association President as well as other art associations & show chairman & teacher. At times Barbara was honored to be a Judge at different art shows. Her work can be found in private collections throughout all the 50 states & overseas as well as banks, oil companies & community centers.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Christine of Bartlesville, her son Mark & wife Becky of Sapulpa, & son Jeff of Claremore. She has six grandchildren, David & James of Tulsa, Brent & his wife Alicia of OKC, Brian, Erin & Lindsey & her husband Nick of Sapulpa. She also has four great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville on July 25th & 11A.M. with Scott Poe officiating. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
