Norma "Jean" Boyd, age 84, and former resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Norma Jean Boswell was born on September 24, 1929, in Mexico, Missouri. She was the daughter of Charles Boswell and Marylee (Perry) Boswell. She was raised in the Mexico community where she attended school, graduating high school with the Mexico High School Class of 1947.
Jean and John Thomas "Tom" Boyd were united in marriage in 1954 and they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri where Mr. Boyd was associated with Phillips Petroleum Company. After moving to several different cities throughout Tom's career, the family was transferred to Bartlesville in 1975.
Jean and Tom were long-time members of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Bartlesville; and members of Bartlesville Hillcrest Country Club. Jean was also very active in PEO, Meals on Wheels, and Service League of Bartlesville. She also volunteered at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville.
Jean moved to Atlanta in 2011 to be closer to her daughter and son.
She was preceded in death by not only her husband, Tom, but by her parents; her son, Chris T. Boyd, who passed away in January of 1993; her brother Lee Boswell and sister, Ruth Boswell McCord. She is survived by her son, John Boyd and his wife, Andrea, and their daughter, Gabrielle, of Tampa, Florida: daughter, Dana Boyd Rohrig and her husband, George, their daughter, Gracie Rohrig, of Atlanta; grandson, Joshua Johnson of Vermillion, South Dakota; sisters, Darlene Hill of Kansas City, Missouri, Launa Whitaker of Mexico, Missouri; brothers, Frank Boswell and his wife, Betty Boswell and Dub Boswell and his wife, Fay, all of Mexico, Missouri.
Jean and Tom, along with family friends, Betty and Homer Robinson and Nancy and Jim Parker, started the Tulsa Cystic Fibrosis Sooner Chapter in 1975. Its fund-raising efforts rank among the most successful in the country. It continues to grow, but we are forever grateful to all the friends and families' support. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Sooner Chapter, 2642 E. 21st, Suite 100, Tulsa, OK 74114 or the .
