Mr. Norman Lee Jonas, 89, longtime resident of Bartlesville, died at 5:15 A.M. on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Tulsa.
Services for Mr. Jonas will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Adams Blvd. Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
A memorial has been established in memory of Mr. Jonas and those who wish may send their contributions to Special Olympics Oklahoma, 6835 S. Canton Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74136. Full military rites will be accorded by the Ceremonial Detail of the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105 of Bartlesville.
Norman Lee Jonas was born on October 21, 1923 in Sikeston, Missouri to Lee Jonas and Katheryn (Wiggins) Jonas. He was raised and educated in Missouri. He served in the Navy during World War Two in the Philippines in the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron. He married Betty Jane Heidmann in Washington, Missouri on February 12, 1948. He began his almost 40 year career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Villa Ridge, Missouri and soon thereafter relocated to the company headquarters in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he resided until shortly before his death. He volunteered and participated in numerous organizations which included 55 years of service on the Conoco Phillips Credit Union Board of Directors, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Power Squadron, and Special Olympics. He also had numerous hobbies and interests over his lifetime which included wind surfing, country western line dancing, classic automobiles, mountain climbing, and watching his grandchildren race BMX bikes.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane in April 2, 2001. He is survived by his children Sarah Kathryn Jonas of Bethany, Oklahoma, Lee Allison Jonas of Las Vegas, Nevada, and George Alan Jonas of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by three grandchildren Cory Lindall Jonas, Cortland Landon Jonas, and Cora Lauren Jonas, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
