Harrison M. Gamble, March 6, 1943 – March 30, 2013. After a courageous 15 year battle with COPD, Harrison passed away peacefully at his home, in Bartlesville, OK, on Saturday March 30, 2013. With him were his wife, Pat and his daughter Rebekah.
Harrison was the tenth and last child of Timmie Gambles and Beulah Sewall Gambles of Marlin, TX. He is survived by a brother, Timothy (Laverne) and two sisters Vera and Leola. He moved to Denton, TX at an early age and graduated from Fred Moore High School. Harrison attended Texas Western College (UTEP) on a combined football/academic scholarship. One of his proudest moments was being a member of the team that won the Sun Bowl in 1965. From that period, he developed friendships that continued throughout his life. After graduation, he remained at the university, for a short period, as an assistant football coach. Harrison held teaching credentials and later moved to Livermore, CA, where he taught English.
Music was always an integral part of his life, from singing in the church choir, playing trumpet in the hi-school band, college musical productions, community groups and special productions over his lifetime. He came to know his talent was a Godly gift that he used to minister to others. He was a loyal member of the choir of First Baptist Church Bartlesville and the community group The Ad Lib Singers.
Harrison and Pat met at The Travelers Insurance Co in Dallas, TX in September 1971, where they were both employed. When they married, on March 10, 1972, they blended a family of four children, Melbourne (TX), Jason (MN), Keven (CA), and Yvette (CA). Later grafted into that family was a nephew, who became a "son", Terrence (AZ). In 1982, their daughter Rebekah was born to complete the family unit. Harrison is survived by his wife, children, ten grandchildren, and countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
Harrison's twenty-six year career with The Travelers allowed the family to move to several different states and cities. He retired from Travelers in 1996 and moved to Bartlesville in 1997 as the Director of CMI (Claims Management Institute for Wal-Mart). He retired from that position in 2006. Harrison touched the lives of many people with his music but also with his generosity and friendship. In each place he lived, the family quickly connected with a local church and became involved in the community. Lifelong friendships were developed and a cherished number become "family".
