LeRoy James Young, 87, resident of Bartlesville, died at 2:15 PM on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey.
Funeral Services for Mr. Young will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 24, 2013, in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dale Durnell, pastor of the Dewey United Methodist officiating. Gravesides Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. at the Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Kansas under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Full Military Honors were presented by the members of the Bartlesville American Legion James H. Teel Post #105.
Mr. Young was a native of Casper, Wyoming born there on December 25, 1925 to Clarence M. and Lillian (Carleton) Young. He came to the Winfield, Kansas area as a young boy where he received his education, graduating High School there in 1944. Later that same year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served honorably during World War II, as a Machinists Mate 3rd class, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1946. He was married to Dorothy Louise Telford on March 18, 1962 at Winfield, Kansas, and they made their home at Winfield, and Las Vegas, Nevada, where she preceded him in death. He was later married to Winnie Mae Haen, on February 14, 1983 at Winfield Kansas, and they made their home there for a few years, then moving to Truth or Consequences New Mexico. They came to Bartlesville in 2003, and had made their home here since that time. Mr. Young was employed as an Aircraft sheet metal worker for most of his working life. He was baptized at the First Methodist Church in Winfield, Kansas on June 11, 1950, and had been attending the Dewey Methodist Church for the past year. His hobbies were playing Bluegrass music in the Desert Rhythm band with his friends Smokey Ray and Woody. He was a member of the Bartlesville American Legion James H. Teel Post #105, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Young is survived by his two daughters; Mrs. Linda Kay Nelson, and her husband Terry of Bartlesville, and LaDonna Sue McCune of Perkins, Oklahoma, by three grandchildren; Tracy McCune, Amber McCune, and Tarah Edgar & husband Erik of Perry, Oklahoma, and by three great-grandchildren Gavynn Stout and Harper Valentine, both of Tonkawa, and Emory Edgar of Perry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, and by his wife Winnie Mae Young in November of 2012, and by a grandson, Kelly Ray Nelson in May of 2011.
