Alan Chang(1923 - 2013)

Alan Chang, 90, of Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, in North Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Chang was born June 14, 1923, in Changsha, China. He taught school in China and while serving with the Chinese Army, he was as an interpreter for the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a librarian at Harvard University and worked as Director of English as a Second Language for Adults in Boston. Mr. Chang was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Pretty Chang; his parents; and eight siblings.

Survivors include wife of 8 years, Rita Linn; daughter, Tanya Chang of Orlando, Fla.; son, Paul Chang of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Joy Di of Boston, Mass.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 Valor Drive, Grain Valley, 816-463-4030. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. He will be laid to rest along with his wife, Pretty, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, Mo.
