Carl F. Rusert, 70, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, March 17, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the Royer-Hays Funeral Home, 205 S.W. 17th St., Blue Springs. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Carl was born September 28, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Carl E. and Virginia F. (Barnhill) Rusert. He was the Blue Springs Athletic Association Commissioner, Blue Springs High School football secretary treasurer, Booster Club president, coached Little League basketball and football, and was nominated Man of the Year by Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce. Carl was involved in Special Olympics
for 17 years, and Boy Scouts from 1987 to present. Recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, he was awarded the District Award of Merit. Carl was an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He also helped the Blue Springs and Kansas City Community Services League. Carl retired from Southwestern Bell after 28 years of service, and while working at SWBT, sponsored Junior Achievement for 4 years.
Carl is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen (McGinley) Rusert; two sons, Erik and Victoria Rusert and Matt and Jenni Rusert; and three granddaughters, Gabriella, McKenna and Kennedy.
