Ernest J. Gieseke, 85, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013.
He was born March 23, 1928, in Concordia, Missouri, to Ernest and Ella Stumpenhaus Gieseke.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Czar Gieseke and their five children, Cynthia Johnson and husband Clint of Independence, Mo., Suzan Ramsey and husband David of Lee's Summit, Mo., Michael Gieseke and wife Nancy of Overland Park, Kan., Janelle Brower and husband Bill of Overland Park, Kan., Linda Gieseke of Blue Springs, Mo., brother, Harvey Gieseke and wife Lenice of San Clemente, Calif., as well as eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie was a four year veteran of the United States Navy
, serving as a medic during the Korean War
. He was a partner in the H. Thies and Sons Livestock Commission Company at the Kansas City Stockyards where he was in charge of hog sales. When the KC Stockyards closed he continued in this line of work at the Kingsville Auction and independently throughout his life. He was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Omar, Elmer, Raymond, and Norvin Gieseke and sisters, Esther Pragman, Opal Wiebe, Verna Kueck, and Ruth Nichols.
He was a man who always put his family and others first. He was from the generation that showed his caring through action, not merely words. He was a diamond in the rough. His country sayings and stories will live on in those who knew and loved him.
Visitation for Ernie will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2013, at Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 NW R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, Mo. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
