Lyle F. Steede, 88, of Independence, Mo., died Thursday, May 12, 2014, at home.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. June 29 at Mission Woods Congregation, Community of Christ, 2800 Duncan and Saunders Roads, Blue Springs, Mo. Private interment will later follow.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Mission Woods Community of Christ or Harvesters.
Lyle was born in Ladysmith, Wis., to Harry F. and Mary Doretta (Bennett) Steede. Lyle served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an electrician by trade and employed at The Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC. He loved life and people and is fondly remembered for his integrity, ingenuity, humor, and generous smile.
He is survived by a brother, Harry M. Steede; two daughters, Linda Steede Daily and Carol Steede Spaulding of Blue Springs; grandchildren, Julie (Birks) Shaw, Ryan Birks, Stephen Daily, Nicole Spaulding, Nathen Spaulding; great-grandchildren Joscelyn Shaw, Scarlett Spaulding, Emmett Spaulding, Stryder Spaulding; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings, his wife Helen in 1993, and an infant son.
